It was a matter of honour for the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra to contribute a special work to the inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie in January 2017. To mark this happy occasion, Hamburg’s General Director of Music Kent Nagano commissioned a full-length oratorio from Jörg Widmann, one of Germany’s most original composers. A work with great predecessors throughout music history, composed to mark a great occasion: Widmann’s »Arche« is being performed again at the Elbphilharmonie’s fifth-anniversary celebrations
