In Joseph Haydns 107 Sinfonien gibt es fast alles: Tickende Uhren, gackernde Hühner, einen unerwarteten Paukenschlag. Auch die Sinfonie Nr. 26 mit dem Titel «Lamentatione» ist ein experimentelles Werk, wenn auch eines der ernsteren Art: Haydn verarbeitete darin Choralthemen aus einem spätmittelalterlichen Passionsspiel. Aber auch wenn man die Zitate nicht erkennt, sind die Trauer und die emotionale Tiefe dieser Musik nicht zu überhören. Dass Haydn im abschliessenden Menuett dann wieder einen ganz anderen, nämlich trotzigen und kantigen Ton anschlug, war zweifellos typisch für ihn. Und es ist eine Steilvorlage für Giovanni Antonini, der ein besonderes Flair hat für Haydns musikalische Überraschungen. Dazu dirigiert er Beethovens C-Dur-Messe: Nach dem inoffiziell geistlichen Werk also auch noch ein offizielles.

Joseph Haydn's 107 symphonies have almost everything: ticking clocks, clucking chickens, an unexpected drumbeat. Symphony No. 26, entitled "Lamentatione", is also an experimental work, albeit one of the more serious kind: in it Haydn adapted choral themes from a late medieval Passion play. But even if one does not recognise the quotations, the sadness and emotional depth of this music cannot be ignored. The fact that Haydn then struck a completely different, namely defiant and edgy tone in the concluding minuet was undoubtedly typical of him. And it is an advantage for Giovanni Antonini, who has a special flair for Haydn's musical surprises. To this end, he conducts Beethoven's Mass in C major: So after the unofficial sacred work, there is also an official one.
