Secret is the name of the song by Franz Schubert with which the program opens. It sets a poem to music that Johann Baptist Mayrhofer wrote and dedicated to his friend. The opening line Say an who teaches you songs tells a lot about the friendship between Schubert and Mayrhofer, who is 10 years his senior. The two lived together in a shared flat for three years. Schubert set 47 of his friend's poems to music, and eight of them will be heard. On the other hand there are the five Goethe settings by Johannes Brahms, there are no other solo songs on texts by the Weimar composer!

If a viola is announced for a mezzo-soprano, the two songs op. 91 by Johannes Brahms are definitely on the program. And because Schubert left no composition for this instrumentation, he composed the wonderfully songlike Arpeggione Sonata, i.e. chamber music. And this is a first in the forum song!

Geheimnis heißt das Lied von Franz Schubert, mit dem das Programm eröffnet wird. Es vertont ein Gedicht, das Johann Baptist Mayrhofer geschrieben und seinem Freund gewidmet hat. Die eröffnende Zeile Sag an, wer lehrt dich Lieder erzählt viel von der Freundschaft zwischen Schubert und dem 10 Jahre älteren Mayrhofer. Drei Jahre lebten die Beiden zusammen in einer Wohngemeinschaft. 47 Gedichte seines Freundes vertonte Schubert, acht von ihnen werden zu hören sein. Dem gegenüber stehen die fünf Goethe-Vertonungen von Johannes Brahms, weitere Sololieder auf Texte des Weimarers gibt es nicht!

Wenn zu einer Mezzosopranistin eine Viola angekündigt wird, stehen mit Sicherheit die beiden Gesänge op. 91 von Johannes Brahms auf dem Programm. Und weil Schubert für diese Besetzung keine Komposition hinterlassen hat, erklingt von ihm die wunderbar liedhafte Arpeggione-Sonate, also Kammermusik. Und das ist eine Premiere im Forum Lied!
