With his most beloved piece, composer Sergei Prokofiev combines Russian folklore with a genius for musical storytelling to feature different instruments, and one gnarly wolf. Saint-Saens makes a veritable zoo with his whimsical Carnival of the Animals. And Poulenc leads the way with the little elephant Babar.
