The Saarpolygon on the Duhamel mine dump near Ensdorf is a monument that can be seen from afar and is a reminder of centuries of coal mining, of the people who worked there under harsh conditions, of the prosperity it brought, but also of the environmental pollution, the changes to the landscape and the Decline - and how people came to terms with it. 

The first opera festival at the Saarpolygon is made possible with start-up funding from the state government (EUR 400,000) as part of the promotion of cultural lighthouses in Saarland.

Numerous other partners, including RAG, RAG Montan Immobilien, the mining heritage association, the municipality of Ensdorf and the Saarlouis district, are making it possible for a vision born years ago to become reality in the coming year.

Mozart's “Magic Flute” reaches people through its popularity like no other opera, regardless of their origin or social status. It contains light and dark, divine and human, past and future, love and hate, bitterness and hope. With the staging of this essentially hopeful and humanistic work in this symbolic location, a new cultural lighthouse will be created for the people of Saarland and its guests over the years.

The staging is carried out using innovative design means (light projections, LED, laser, video) and high-quality sound technology (surround sound). In this way, contemporary means are used to create an impressive effect on visitors.

Das Saarpolygon auf der Bergehalde Duhamel bei Ensdorf erinnert als weit sichtbares Denkmal an den jahrhundertelangen Kohlebergbau, an die Menschen, die dort unter harten Bedingungen arbeiteten, an den Wohlstand, den er brachte, aber auch an die Umweltbelastung, die Veränderung der Landschaft und an den Niedergang – und wie sich die Menschen damit arrangierten. 

Mit der Anschubfinanzierung der Landesregierung (400.000 EUR) im Rahmen der Förderung der kulturellen Leuchttürme im Saarland werden die ersten Opernfestspiele am Saarpolygon ermöglicht.

Zahlreiche weitere Partner, darunter die RAG, die RAG Montan Immobilien, der Verein BergbauerbeSaar, die Gemeinde Ensdorf und der Landkreis Saarlouis ermöglichen, dass aus einer bereits vor Jahren geborenen Vision im kommenden Jahr Realität wird.

Mozarts „Zauberflöte“ erreicht wie keine andere Oper durch ihre Popularität die Menschen, unabhängig von ihrer Herkunft oder ihrem sozialen Status. In ihr finden sich Licht und Dunkel, Göttliches und Menschliches, Vergangenheit und Zukunft, Liebe und Hass, Verbitterung und Hoffnung. Mit der Inszenierung dieses im Kern hoffnungsvollen und humanistischen Werks an diesem symbolträchtigen Ort wird über Jahre ein neuer kultureller Leuchtturm für die Menschen im Saarland und seine Gäste geschaffen.

Die Inszenierung erfolgt mit innovativen Gestaltungsmitteln (Lichtprojektionen, LED, Laser, Video) und hochwertiger Tontechnik (Surround Beschallung). So wird mit zeitgemäßen Mitteln eine beeindruckende Wirkung auf die BesucherInnen erzeugt.
