The fact that in the year before the premiere, a capital stock market crash plunged the waltz city of Vienna into depression, led to the wonderfully melodious insight that “you are happy if you forget what cannot be changed”. This archetype of the golden operetta is humorously narrated in Cologne by Andreas Martin Hofmeir: The award-winning classical tuba virtuoso and Bavarian cabaret artist slips into the role of the permanently drunk prison warden Frosch and presents his fluctuating view of the intricate events. The capella provides the musical swing Aquileia under its chief conductor Marcus Bosch, who once brought this formidable ensemble into being for the Heidenheim Opera Festival.
