"The Gypsy Baron" is one of the most popular and most liked works by Johann Strauss, in which the Gypsy element is intertwined with Viennese elegance, and great group scenes with atmospheric arias and duets. This is a classic operetta in beautiful costumes, colorful scenery of the Hungarian land and Vienna, captivating with music, vocal performances and wonderful ballet scenes. It is a masterpiece of the genre with a unique charm and thrilling scenic character. The action of the libretto based on the novella by the Hungarian writer Maurycy Jókai entitled "Saffi" takes place on the Hungarian-Turkish border in the mid-18th century and ends in Vienna. This made it possible to combine intriguing romance threads into one whole, and above all to create a work of art
about incredible melodic invention, merging - as Stromerger writes - "the fluidity of a Viennese waltz with the clatter of spurs in a czardas, a gypsy ballad with a choir of picturesque oarsmen. Lyrical scenes, marching rhythms, comic duets, lively finales complement the beautiful operetta", which is also a regular guest at opera houses scenes.

"Gypsy Baron" has been in the repertoire of the Silesian Opera continuously since 1979. And it is still awaited by the audience... As everywhere in the world. We invite you to the adventures of Kalman Żupan - a pig trader, his beautiful daughter Arsena; Sandor Barinkay, the title Gypsy Baron, and Saffi, Czpira, and the entire Gypsy caravan, who is competing for her hand. „Baron cygański” jest jednym z najpopularniejszych i najbardziej lubianych dzieł Johanna Straussa, w którym cygański żywioł przeplata się z wiedeńską elegancją, a wielkie sceny zbiorowe z nastrojowymi ariami i duetami. To klasyczna operetka w pięknych kostiumach, barwnej scenografii ziemi węgierskiej i Wiednia, urzekająca muzyką, popisami wokalnymi i wspaniałymi scenami baletowymi. To arcydzieło gatunku o wyjątkowym uroku i porywającej sceniczności. Akcja libretta opartego na noweli węgierskiego pisarza Maurycego Jókaia pt. "Saffi" rozgrywa się na pograniczu węgiersko-tureckim w połowie XVIII wieku i znajduje swój finał w Wiedniu. Pozwoliło to połączyć w jedną całość intrygujące wątki romansowe, a przede wszystkim stworzyć dzieło
o niebywałej inwencji melodycznej, stapiającej - jak pisze Stromerger - "płynność wiedeńskiego walca z brzękiem ostrogi w czardaszu, cygańską balladę z chórem malowniczych wioślarzy. Sceny liryczne, rytmy marszowe, duety komiczne, żwawe finały uzupełniają piękną operetkę", która gości stale także na operowych scenach.

"Baron Cygański" utrzymuje się w repertuarze Opery Śląskiej nieprzerwanie od 1979 roku. I wciąż jest oczekiwany przez publiczność... Jak wszędzie na świecie.
