"Musical historian of the female soul" (Debussy), Massenet delivers with Cendrillon a seductive work in which orchestral and vocal writings lend themselves to the evocation of the marvellous. He also gives his lyrical magic colors borrowing from all registers of female voices: from contralto to coloratura soprano. And if the Prince is interpreted by a mezzo-soprano, that puts him on an equal footing with Cinderella. The two teenagers find themselves in the land of dreams and love, until these dreams come true...

In a clever scenic device, and thanks to marvelous costumes (in the literal sense of the term), Ezio Toffolutti offers a reading that is both faithful and comical of Perrault's tale. Without neglecting the ballets for which Massenet had proscribed an academic choreographic treatment and the tutu! Today, Ambra Senatore's choreography, whose fantasy corresponds to the spirit of the work, extends this assumed modernity.

Historien musical de l’âme féminine » (Debussy), Massenet livre avec Cendrillon une œuvre séduisante dans laquelle écritures orchestrale et vocale se prêtent à l’évocation du merveilleux. Il donne également à sa féérie lyrique des couleurs empruntant à tous les registres des voix féminines : du contralto au soprano colorature. Et si le Prince est interprété par une mezzo-soprano, cela le met sur un pied d’égalité avec Cendrillon. Les deux adolescents se retrouvent au pays des rêves et de l’amour, jusqu’à ce que ces rêves deviennent réalité…

Dans un astucieux dispositif scénique, et grâce à des costumes merveilleux (au sens propre du terme), Ezio Toffolutti offre une lecture à la fois fidèle et cocasse du conte de Perrault. Sans négliger les ballets pour lesquels Massenet avait proscrit un traitement chorégraphique académique et le tutu ! Aujourd’hui, la chorégraphie d’Ambra Senatore dont la fantaisie correspond à l’esprit de l’œuvre, prolonge cette modernité assumée.
