Anne Frank died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Zef, an Albanian boy from our time, is the victim of a blood feud. They meet in heaven and discover that despite cultural differences, they have much in common. Anne is a writer, Zef likes to act. Both sometimes have problems with their parents. They talk about their lives and get closer to each other as a result.

That is in short the story of the compelling youth opera Anne & Zef . Anne is sung by the Dutch-Iranian soprano Lilian Farahani (1990), baritone Benjamin de Wilde (1994) takes on the role of Zef. The music is played by musicians from the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra | Netherlands Chamber Orchestra conducted by Huba Hölloköi.

Playwright Ad de Bont wrote the libretto for this opera, basing it on his successful play Anne and Zef . The starting point for this was Anne Frank's diary. The Dutch composer Monique Krüs wrote the music. The director is Corina van Eijk: 'Both children were locked up until they died. But they meet in absolute freedom: the afterlife. We want to show that little has changed since Anne Frank. There are still people locked up in places we don't know about. There are no news reports about that, those facts only come to light years later. Thanks to Anne Frank, we know a lot more about life during the Second World War. It is not a light subject, but the compelling music that has been specially composed for the young singers makes it clear Anne & Zef  is both an exciting and heartwarming performance.'

Suitable for lower secondary education and children from 12 years and adults. Anne & Zef is commissioned by Nedpho and a production by Nedpho and Opera Spanga.

Anne Frank kwam om in concentratiekamp Bergen-Belsen. Zef, een Albanese jongen uit onze tijd, is het slachtoffer van bloedwraak. Ze ontmoeten elkaar in de hemel en komen erachter dat ze ondanks cultuurverschillen veel met elkaar gemeen hebben. Anne is schrijfster, Zef speelt graag toneel. Beiden hebben soms problemen met hun ouders. Ze vertellen over hun leven en komen daardoor steeds dichter bij elkaar.

Dat is in het kort het verhaal van de meeslepende jeugdopera Anne & Zef. Anne wordt gezongen door de Nederlands-Iraanse sopraan Lilian Farahani (1990), bariton Benjamin de Wilde (1994) kruipt in de huid van Zef. De muziek wordt gespeeld door musici van het Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest | Nederlands Kamerorkest o.l.v. Huba Hölloköi.

Toneelschrijver Ad de Bont schreef het libretto voor deze opera en baseerde het op zijn succesvolle toneelstuk Anne en Zef. Uitgangspunt hierbij was het dagboek van Anne Frank. De Nederlandse componist Monique Krüs schreef de muziek. Regisseur is Corina van Eijk: 'Beide kinderen hebben tot hun dood opgesloten gezeten. Maar ze ontmoeten elkaar in absolute vrijheid: het hiernamaals. We willen laten zien dat er sinds Anne Frank weinig is veranderd. Er zitten nog steeds mensen opgesloten op plekken waar wij geen weet van hebben. Daar komen geen nieuwsberichten over binnen, die feiten komen jaren later pas boven tafel. Dankzij Anne Frank weten we veel meer over het leven in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Het is geen licht onderwerp, maar door de meeslepende muziek die speciaal voor de jonge zangers is gecomponeerd, wordt Anne & Zef zowel een spannende als hartverwarmende voorstelling.’

Geschikt voor onderbouw voortgezet onderwijs en kinderen vanaf 12 jaar en volwassenen. Anne & Zef is een opdracht van het Nedpho en een productie van Nedpho en Opera Spanga.
