Haydn, Wagner, Strauss - a German program? In any case, classical music is shaped transnationally by the lonely quality of Vienna. Haydn, guided by the spirit of the Enlightenment, unfolds his musical humor, which was particularly well received in England, in the London symphonies - from which the famous clock comes .

There is no doubt that Wagner's Siegfried Idyll cannot deny its German genesis. However, it is not the great pathos that the story has played up nationally that is conveyed here, but an idyll - a moment of happiness: while working on the Siegfried drama in 1869 his son, naturally named Siegfried, was born, and as a souvenir he gave it to his mother Cosima this tender, almost cheerful piece with themes from the music drama for her 33rd birthday. The Bavarian Richard Strauss is also cheerful in the best sense of the word. This time, however, he shows himself to be a transporter of the French spirit with the setting of the Molière comedy Der Bürger als Edelmann .

The conductor Christof Prick, who was born in Hamburg, was appointed in 1974, after a brief, intensive period as a beginner, to be Germany's then youngest general music director at the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken. In the same position he was also responsible for the Baden State Theater in Karlsruhe from 1977 to 1986, as well as for the State Opera in Hanover from 1993 and most recently until 2011 for the State Theater in Nuremberg. Prick conducted regularly at the Vienna State Opera, as Staatskapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the Hamburg State Opera and, as a permanent guest conductor, led numerous evenings and an annual rehearsal at the Saxon State Opera in Dresden for fifteen years. From 2001 to 2013 he was a professor for conducting at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg.

Haydn, Wagner, Strauss – ein deutsches Programm? Die Klassik jedenfalls wird übernational geprägt durch einsame Qualität von Wien aus. Haydn, geleitet vom Geist der Aufklärung, entfaltet seinen musikalischen Humor, der besonders gut in England ankam, in den Londoner Sinfonien – hieraus stammt die berühmte Uhr.

Dass Wagners Siegfried-Idyll seine deutsche Genese nicht verleugnen kann – kein Zweifel. Jedoch nicht das große Pathos, das die Geschichte national hochgespielt hat, wird hier transportiert, sondern ein Idyll – ein Glücksmoment: während der Arbeit am Siegfried-Drama wird 1869 sein Sohn, natürlich namens Siegfried, geboren, und als Erinnerung daran schenkt er der Mutter Cosima dieses zarte, fast heitere Stücklein mit Themen aus dem Musikdrama zum 33. Geburtstag. Im besten Sinn heiter auch der bayerische Richard Strauss. Der zeigt sich diesmal aber als Transporteur französischen Geistes mit der Vertonung der Molière-Komödie Der Bürger als Edelmann.

Der in Hamburg geborene Dirigent Christof Prick wurde 1974, nach einer kurzen intensiven Anfängerzeit, als Deutschlands damals jüngster Generalmusikdirektor an das Saarländische Staatstheater Saarbrücken berufen. In gleicher Position war er auch von 1977 bis 1986 für das Badische Staatstheater in Karlsruhe verantwortlich, ebenso wie ab 1993 für die Staatsoper Hannover und zuletzt bis 2011 für das Staatstheater in Nürnberg. Prick dirigierte regelmäßig an der Wiener Staatsoper, als Staatskapellmeister der Deutschen Oper Berlin, an der Hamburgischen Staatsoper und leitete als ständiger Gastdirigent für fünfzehn Jahre zahlreiche Abende und eine jährliche Neueinstudierung an der Sächsischen Staatsoper in Dresden. Von 2001 bis 2013 war er als Professor für Dirigieren an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg tätig.
