Stephen was born and educated in Melbourne, Australia and has staged productions for many of the world’s leading opera companies including Santa Fe Opera, Royal Opera House, The Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Glyndebourne Festival and Opéra de Monte Carlo.
